So, Gametrailers just spoiled Super Smash Bros. Brawl’s full cast of characters, and I noticed.
Here it is:

Yep. I dunno if it was intentional or Gametrailers just screwed up, but it’s online. I feel almost kinda bad for looking at it, as one of Meele’s best attributes was to find a secret character, so I’ll just leave the file and make a few mentions.
First, from my glimpse everyone seems to be returning, including Ness and Game & Watch. That nemesis of Captain Falcon, Black Shadow or whatever, is there too. Ganondorf is back with a facelift, as expected, and as I suspected, Cel-Shaded Link replaces Young Link. There are a couple of surprises there too, but I dare not think much of them. Hopefully I’ll forget in time of the game’s release.
Enjoy. Or not. But you’ll enjoy the game, that’s for sure.
EDIT: Screw this, let’s analyze the new cast.
From left to right, we have…
- Bowser Jr.: This one was confirmed by Sakurai on the radio a long time ago, and it was true. Since he wears the mask he used to turn into Shadow Mario in Sunshine, I guess he’ll have the ability to either turn into Mario, or actually transform into one of his opponents, which would be cool. He will probably be a middleweight character, possibly with some movements similar to Bowser.
- Midna: Now that’s an unexpected one. It seems to be Midna in-between Link and Ganondorf, which could mean Wolf Link, or just Midna’s magical abilities. Either way, it should be awesome. If it’s Midna alone, then she’ll probably be a lightweight, magic-focused character.
- Wind Waker Link: A given. If Sakurai didn’t put this Link, the game would be incomplete. He should be similar to Meele’s Young Link, with the added charisma of the character. Lightweight, definitely.
- King K. Rool: Wait what? I wasn’t expecting this one. Since I never played Donkey Kong Country (whaaat…), I don’t know much of his abilities, but he’s certainly a heavyweight.
- Ridley: I was expecting him too from Sakurai’s announcement. Another “gliding” character, probably an agile powerhouse too. Should be awesome to play with him. Gliding mediumweight.
- Dark Samus: Alright, if you ask me, this one should’ve been a color swap. I wonder what kinds of abilities Dark Samus, a.k.a. Metroid Prime, will have. Hopefully you get to transform in Metroid Prime’s gigantic original form, with a Smash Ball or something.
- Lucario: I haven’t followed Pokémon for years, but from what I know, this one appeared in a movie and is a staple of Diamond and Pearl. Probably a mediumweight – and I guess cool to play as. I know Mewtwo, who fortunately is back, was awesome, and I expect the same from this one. (Side-note: Goddamnit, Jigglypuff is back)
- Wolf O’Donnell: HOLY CRAP, THEY CUT FALCO?! I loved Falco… guess we gotta stick with Wolf instead. Probably very similar to Fox, if not a clone. I can imagine his Smash Ball attack being a Wolfen raid. Lightweight similar to Fox.
- Krystal: I kinda expected this one. It’s good to see a new female character in the mix, too. She’ll probably use a combination of magic and Star Fox’s weaponry. Lightweight, kinda like Zelda.
- Ashley: … oh my. Never saw that coming. The WarioWare witch is here, and she’ll definitely use some magic tricks. Fast, but lightweight, if you ask me, and probably bad for combos.
- Two Fire Emblem characters? I honestly don’t know. The other ones were easy to distinguish, but I’ve only played two Fire Emblem games, so I don’t know much of the huge character list.
- Black Shadow: I did get the name right. Heavyweight, very powerful, but slow mover – or a clone of Falcon like Ganondorf was, only slower and more powerful. Either way, should add a certain dark flavor to the cast – and his Smash Ball attack will definitely be Black Bull, which is cool.
- ? I don’t seem to recognize that character. I don’t know if it’s Nintendo’s or not… I can’t distinguish it from the image, it’s too low-quality. Ah well, I guess we’ll find it later.
There you have it, my predictions. The cast of characters is now of epic proportions, and should be fun to get them all.
I need to go play Melee now.
EDIT: I’m wondering right now whether this image is true or not. I did find it in frickin’ Gametrailers, but I’d already noticed that the newer adds to the cast (such as Bowser Jr.) use the artwork from the original games instead of having an actual render. So, maybe this one is fake.
If it is, I’m gonna stop trusting the damn site.
EDIT: Newsflash – it’s fake.
